A brilliant reminder of how contemporary Democrats including many progressives have lost the link between democracy and economic justice. So much of today's politics is defined by five decades of globalization creating the sharply unequal distribution of abundance that Reuther warned about.
this is an amazingly helpful, brilliant piece!! i keep re reading and re sharing because it is so much history that i didn't learn and am so grateful to learn now and i wish we had a way to share this hugely and not in the reactive tiny bite non nuanced anti intellectual culture we find ourselves in..it would speak truth to so many opposing understandings and help find commonality we need to move on to examine the structures that keep us at each others throats vs shared resources and points of common view! thank you Waleed, im subscribing and sharing kathryn
Thank you thank you! This historical perspective is so helpful and supportive of so many groups battling the horrors of our unregulated capitalism.. but how to compile this pov into the kind of short summation that reaches our reactive social media driven population? Thoughts?? But thank you for this education! Kathryn
Wow. A great enlightenment that I suspect would not be found in any books that the far right want to ban. Thank you so much for this read. Somehow, the Trump cult needs to have this forced upon them rather than Kool-Ade.

Excellent work
The New Deal, like the Declaration of Independence, remain unfinished, inter generational responsibilities.
Outstanding article. So much food for thought. I learned a lot!

Great article. I couldn't have said it better myself.
